The 9th edition of the International Exhibition of Water, Sanitation and Energy Technologies (SITeau) concluded on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Marrakech, Morocco, with the adoption of the Marrakech Declaration. The document calls for a systemic and integrated approach to address the interconnected challenges of water scarcity, climate change, and energy access.
According to the official closing statement, the declaration emphasizes the need for cross-sectoral collaboration, innovative financing mechanisms, and the deployment of advanced technologies to ensure sustainable water management. It also highlights the importance of regional cooperation, particularly in North Africa and the Sahel, where water stress is acute.
Organizers reported that the four-day event attracted over 15,000 visitors and 300 exhibitors from more than 40 countries. Key sessions focused on desalination, wastewater treatment, and the use of renewable energy in water infrastructure.
The Marrakech Declaration will be submitted to the upcoming United Nations Water Conference and the COP31 climate summit as a contribution from the African water sector.
