Manchester United are reportedly preparing their first bid to sign midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 20-year-old Portuguese talent has impressed since joining West Ham from Sporting CP in 2024.
United are prioritizing central midfield reinforcements this summer, with Brazilian midfielder Ederson already signed from Atalanta for a reported £38 million. Fernandes, who can play as a box-to-box or defensive midfielder, is seen as a long-term option.
West Ham are expected to demand a significant fee for Fernandes, who has a contract until 2029. No official bid has been made yet, but talks are ongoing. The deal could be worth around £40 million including add-ons.
