Enzo Conticello, a 29-year-old man, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for stealing a handbag containing a Fabergé egg valued at approximately £2 million. The theft occurred on the evening of November 14, 2024, at the Dog and Duck pub in Soho, London. Conticello took a Givenchy handbag from a woman who was in the pub's smoking area.
The stolen item was a Fabergé egg, a piece of decorative art created by the historic Russian jewellery firm. The egg was reportedly a modern piece, not a historic imperial egg, but still of immense value. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the item's recovery shortly after the theft, stating it was found undamaged.
Conticello, of no fixed address, was identified through CCTV footage from the pub and nearby streets. He pleaded guilty to theft at an earlier hearing at Southwark Crown Court. In sentencing, the judge noted the high value of the item and the significant distress caused to the victim.
