Louisville Metro Police have identified the man found dead at McNeely Lake Park on August 3, 2026, as 34-year-old James R. Thompson, according to a department spokesperson. The cause of death has not been officially released, pending the Jefferson County Coroner's autopsy results.
Officers responded to the park, located in the 7200 block of Johnsontown Road, around 8:15 a.m. after a passerby reported an unresponsive person. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have stated that no foul play is suspected at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
The coroner's office is expected to release the cause and manner of death later this week. Foul play has not been ruled out entirely, and detectives are awaiting toxicology reports.
