A 39-year-old man has died following a shark attack near Hull Heads in Far North Queensland, Australia, on May 24, 2026. Emergency services were called to the Hull River boat ramp, approximately 160 kilometres south of Cairns, just after 12:00 PM local time after receiving reports of a shark attack.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he died from his injuries. The species of shark involved has not been confirmed. Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed the incident in a statement.
Local authorities have closed the area to swimming and advised beachgoers to exercise caution. The attack is the first fatal shark incident in Queensland in 2026.
