Manchester City is reportedly preparing a major summer transfer bid for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The 22-year-old is considered one of Europe's top young talents.
According to reports from sources including Sky Germany, City manager Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Wirtz and sees him as a key future signing. Wirtz has been instrumental for Leverkusen, contributing 18 goals and 20 assists across all competitions in the 2025-26 season as of early April.
Any potential transfer is expected to command a fee in excess of €100 million. However, Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes has publicly stated the club's intention to keep Wirtz for at least one more season. The player's current contract runs until 2027.
The pursuit highlights Manchester City's strategy of recruiting elite young talent, though they face significant competition. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been consistently linked with the German international.
