A 64-year-old man has been arrested in Lincoln, Nebraska, in connection with the 1990 murders of a young couple in Texas, known as the "Lovers' Lane Murders." The suspect, identified as David Charles Riggins, was taken into custody on March 26, 2026, by the U.S. Marshals Service Metro Fugitive Task Force.
The case involves the deaths of 19-year-old Carla Walker and 17-year-old David Leos, who were found shot to death in a car in a secluded area of Fort Worth, Texas, on February 22, 1990. The case had remained unsolved for over three decades.
Authorities stated that Riggins was identified as a suspect through advancements in forensic genetic genealogy, which involves using DNA from crime scenes to find potential relatives in public databases. He is currently awaiting extradition to Texas to face capital murder charges.
The arrest marks a significant development in a cold case that has haunted the Fort Worth community for 36 years. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers collaborated on the renewed investigation leading to the arrest.
