Malaysia's Ministry of Health has announced an expansion of its free influenza vaccination program, making the vaccine available to a broader segment of the population. The initiative, which began earlier this year, aims to reduce the burden of seasonal flu, particularly among high-risk groups.
According to official statements, the program now includes adults aged 60 and above, children under five, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Healthcare workers and essential service personnel are also prioritized.
The expansion comes as Malaysia reports a 20% increase in influenza-like illness cases in early 2026 compared to the same period last year. Health officials emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective preventive measure against severe flu complications.
Eligible individuals can receive the vaccine at designated government health clinics and hospitals. The ministry advises booking appointments in advance to manage demand and ensure social distancing.
