Malaria kills 56 in Zimbabwe's Mashonaland West

Mashonaland West Province has recorded 14,730 cumulative malaria cases since the beginning of 2026, with the disease claiming 56 lives, according to local health authorities. The outbreak has prompted intensified control measures across the region.

Health officials are scaling up indoor residual spraying and distributing insecticide-treated nets to affected communities. The provincial health director confirmed that the majority of deaths occurred in rural areas with limited access to healthcare.

Malaria remains a major public health challenge in Zimbabwe, particularly during the rainy season. The Ministry of Health has urged residents to seek early treatment and use preventive measures such as mosquito nets and repellents.
