The Maharashtra government has issued an order allowing hotels, restaurants, and bars to remain open until 4 a.m. on the night of the FIFA World Cup final, scheduled for July 19, 2026. The decision aims to accommodate fans wishing to watch the match live.
The order, issued by the state's Home Department, applies to licensed establishments across the state. It grants a one-time exemption from standard closing hours, which typically require venues to shut by 1:30 a.m. in Mumbai and earlier in other cities.
Authorities have stipulated that all venues must comply with existing laws regarding noise pollution and public order. Establishments are also required to ensure that no alcohol is served to minors and that all patrons adhere to safety guidelines.
The move is expected to boost business for the hospitality sector, which has faced challenges in recent years. However, some residents have expressed concerns about potential disturbances in residential areas near late-night venues.
