Authorities in the Community of Madrid have implemented a temporary ban on rock climbing in specific sectors of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. The measure, effective from April 1 until July 31, 2026, aims to protect several species of birds of prey during their critical breeding and nesting season.

The restricted areas include key cliff faces in La Pedriza and other zones identified as important nesting sites. The ban is designed to minimize human disturbance for species such as the Griffon vulture, the Egyptian vulture, the Golden eagle, and the Peregrine falcon, which are particularly sensitive during this period.

Park officials and environmental groups have emphasized that the temporary closure is a necessary conservation action to ensure the reproductive success of these protected species. The regional government has stated that the measure is based on scientific monitoring and is part of standard annual wildlife protection protocols.

Signage has been installed in the affected areas to inform climbers of the restrictions. Authorities have indicated that compliance will be monitored, and alternative climbing locations outside the sensitive zones remain available for use during this period.
