Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has defended his decision to use a Royal New Zealand Air Force flight to attend a National Party fundraiser, saying he has a "busy job" and a "full schedule."
Labour Party officials on Wednesday accused Luxon of misusing defence resources for political purposes. The flight, which took place earlier this week, was used to transport the Prime Minister to an event in Auckland, according to RNZ.
Luxon responded to the criticism by stating that his travel arrangements are made with efficiency in mind, and that attending party events is part of his role as leader. He emphasized that the use of the Air Force flight was appropriate given his official duties and the need to manage his time effectively.
The opposition has called for a review of the rules governing ministerial travel, arguing that taxpayers should not fund political activities. However, Luxon maintained that all travel was conducted in accordance with the Cabinet Office circular on travel.
