Lt General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army. He will assume office on June 30, 2026, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, who is retiring.
The appointment was approved by the President of India, as per an official statement from the Ministry of Defence. Lt Gen Seth will hold the substantive rank of General upon taking charge.
Lt Gen Seth is a decorated officer with extensive experience in command and staff roles. He currently serves as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. His appointment comes at a time of ongoing modernization and security challenges for the Indian Army.
