The city of Lomé, Togo, has been confirmed as the host for two major African handball tournaments in 2026. According to the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), the 27th African Men's Handball Championship and the 27th African Women's Handball Championship will be held in the Togolese capital.
The events are scheduled to take place from October 15 to 30, 2026. The championships serve as the official qualification tournaments for the 2027 World Men's and Women's Handball Championships.
This will be a significant sporting undertaking for Togo, marking its first time hosting the senior African handball championships. The announcement follows the CAHB's General Assembly decision, which awarded the hosting rights to the Togolese Handball Federation.
Preparations are underway in Lomé to welcome the continent's top national teams. The tournaments are expected to boost the sport's profile in West Africa and provide a platform for regional athletic competition.
