Living organ donors Emma and Stacey have shared their personal stories to highlight the importance of organ donation in Ireland. According to the Irish Kidney Association, in 2025 there were 202 organ transplants in Ireland, 29 of which came from living donors. Currently, over 650 people are on the organ transplant waiting list in the country.
Emma, a living kidney donor, described the process as 'life-changing' for both the donor and recipient. She emphasized that living donation can significantly reduce waiting times and improve outcomes. Stacey, another donor, noted that the surgery is safe and recovery is manageable with proper support.
