The Central Gauteng Lions have terminated the contract of all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel with immediate effect. The decision follows an incident during the CSA One-Day Cup final on April 5, 2026, where Swanepoel left the Wanderers Stadium field before the conclusion of the match against the Titans.
The Lions were forced to field with only ten players for the final overs of a tight contest, which they ultimately lost by two runs. The franchise stated the action was taken due to a breach of the team's code of conduct, describing Swanepoel's departure as "unacceptable".
Swanepoel, 27, had joined the Lions squad ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season. In a brief statement, the player expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging they fell short of professional standards. The Lions have not announced a replacement for the remainder of their season commitments.
