PETALING JAYA: Women's singles shuttler K. Letshanaa put up a strong fight in the opening round of the Singapore Open before going down to world No. 4 Chen Yufei of China on Wednesday (May 27).
World No. 30 Letshanaa, competing in her first match of the tournament, took the first game 21-19 before Chen rallied to win the next two games 21-16, 21-12. The match lasted 58 minutes.
This was Letshanaa's third meeting with Chen, who now leads their head-to-head record 3-0. The Malaysian had previously lost to the Chinese star at the 2023 Malaysia Masters and the 2024 Indonesia Open.
Chen, the 2020 Olympic champion, will face either Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong or Japan's Aya Ohori in the second round.
