Hundreds of mourners gathered in heavy rain in Beirut on Sunday, March 29, 2026, for the funeral of three Lebanese journalists from the Al Mayadeen network killed in an Israeli airstrike the previous day. The deceased were identified as correspondent Rami Yehia, photojournalist Hussein Akil, and technician Halim Allaw.

The Israeli military stated the strike targeted a "terrorist" and acknowledged the subsequent reports of journalist casualties, saying the incident was under review. The strike occurred in the town of Tayr Harfa in southern Lebanon.

In response, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching dozens of Katyusha rockets at the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona on Sunday, stating it was retaliation for the journalists' deaths. The Israeli military reported no immediate casualties from the rocket fire.

The incident has heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, which have seen near-daily exchanges of fire since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. The Lebanese government and journalists' unions have condemned the strike.
