Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday, April 6, urged the United States to abandon "the language of ultimatums" and return to negotiations with Tehran. The call was confirmed by official statements from both the Russian and Iranian foreign ministries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov "expressed hope that the United States would finally abandon the language of ultimatums and sanctions against Tehran and return to the negotiating track." The discussion also covered bilateral cooperation and regional issues, including the situation in Gaza.

The appeal comes amid ongoing international efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran have been stalled for an extended period, with disagreements over sanctions relief and the scope of Iran's nuclear program remaining key obstacles.
