The Lagos State Government announced that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line transported approximately 3.5 million passengers in 2025, with daily ridership reaching 15,000 commuters. Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi disclosed this during a briefing on the line's first anniversary of full operations.
The Blue Line, which runs from Marina to Mile 2, has been a key part of Lagos' efforts to ease road congestion. Osiyemi noted that the system has improved travel times and reduced reliance on road transport for many residents.
According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the line operates 12 trains daily, with plans to increase frequency. The government aims to expand the network to serve more areas, including a planned extension to Okokomaiko.
The 3.5 million figure represents a milestone for the project, which faced delays during construction. Officials say the ridership data is based on automated fare collection systems.
