The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has warned that stigma, discrimination, gender-based violence (GBV), and denial of essential services could frustrate efforts to prevent and control HIV in Lagos State. The agency called for stronger legal and policy measures to protect people living with HIV and key populations.
According to LSACA, these barriers discourage individuals from seeking testing, treatment, and care, thereby increasing the risk of new infections and undermining the state's HIV response. The agency emphasized that addressing stigma and GBV is critical to achieving epidemic control.
LSACA urged stakeholders, including government, civil society, and communities, to collaborate on enforcing anti-discrimination laws and ensuring access to comprehensive HIV services. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to reducing new infections and improving the quality of life for people living with HIV in Lagos State.
