Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has proposed a $14.85 billion budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2026. The spending plan represents a 2.5% increase over the current year's budget.
The mayor's proposal prioritizes public safety and addressing the city's homelessness crisis. It includes funding to maintain the current number of police officers and to continue the Inside Safe initiative, which moves people from encampments into temporary and permanent housing.
"This budget makes strategic investments to continue our urgent work to bring Angelenos inside," Mayor Bass stated in her announcement. The budget must now be reviewed and approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
The proposal comes as the city faces a projected budget deficit. To help close the gap, the plan includes measures to improve city revenue collection and operational efficiencies, while avoiding major service cuts.
