Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised the reported attempt by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, describing it as a retrogressive step. Kpebu made the remarks during a media interview, according to reports.
Kpebu, who is known for his commentary on governance and rule of law issues, argued that no political party remains in power indefinitely and that state institutions should not be used to target political opponents. He called for due process to be followed in any investigation involving the legislator.
The reported arrest attempt has not been officially confirmed by EOCO or the Ghana Police Service. The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South has not issued a public statement on the matter. Attempts to reach EOCO officials for comment were unsuccessful.
