Swiss national team goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has stated that Switzerland has a 'big score to settle' with Portugal ahead of their upcoming match. The comment comes as the two teams prepare to face each other in a crucial Euro 2024 group stage encounter.
Kobel, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, made the remark during a press conference on May 27, 2026, in Stuttgart, Germany. He referenced Switzerland's 6-1 loss to Portugal in the 2022 World Cup round of 16, saying the team has not forgotten that defeat.
'We have a big score to settle with Portugal,' Kobel said. 'That match in Qatar was a painful lesson, but we have grown as a team since then. We are ready to show our best football.'
Switzerland and Portugal are both strong contenders in Group F of Euro 2024, which also includes Turkey and the Czech Republic. The match is scheduled for June 1, 2026, at the Stuttgart Arena.
