The historic King's Theatre in Edinburgh will fully reopen to audiences in time for the city's festival season, following a major refurbishment project. The 120-year-old venue in Tollcross closed in 2022 for a £36 million modernisation aimed at securing its future.
The project, led by the Capital Theatres charity, includes improved accessibility, new seating, upgraded backstage facilities, and enhanced public spaces. The theatre's iconic Edwardian auditorium has been restored while adding modern amenities.
The reopening is scheduled for June 2026, with a gala performance planned. The theatre will host a range of shows during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and International Festival, which run throughout August.
King's Theatre originally opened in 1906 and has been a cornerstone of Edinburgh's cultural scene. The refurbishment ensures it meets current standards while preserving its historic character.
