The Sindh government on Wednesday approved plans to establish a modern terminal for trucks, trailers, and heavy transport vehicles on the Northern Bypass in Karachi, aiming to reduce traffic congestion in the city. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, according to an official press release.
The terminal will be developed on 50 acres of land and will include parking facilities, rest areas, and maintenance services for heavy vehicles. The project is expected to divert heavy traffic from city roads, particularly in industrial areas like SITE and Korangi.
Officials stated that the terminal will be built under a public-private partnership model, with an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 billion. The Sindh government will provide the land, while the private sector will handle construction and operation. The project is part of broader efforts to improve urban mobility and reduce pollution in Karachi.
No timeline for completion was provided in the announcement. The Northern Bypass was chosen due to its strategic location connecting major highways and industrial zones.
