KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday approved a seven-day physical remand for three suspects in the murder case of Dr Akash Kumar, a young doctor at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The suspects were presented in court amid tight security.
Dr Akash Kumar was killed on July 14, 2026, in Karachi, sparking widespread condemnation from the medical community and civil society. The suspects were arrested in connection with the murder, and police sought their remand for further investigation.
The court granted the remand after police argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to recover evidence and identify other accomplices. The case has drawn attention to the safety of healthcare workers in Pakistan.
