The Kankakee County Board has approved new salary rates for the county's elected officials, with the changes set to take effect in December 2026 following the next general election. The ordinance was passed during the board's meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2026.
According to the approved measure, the annual salary for the County Clerk will be set at $115,000. The Sheriff's salary will be $150,000 per year. The salaries for the Treasurer and the Regional Superintendent of Schools will be $108,000 and $105,000, respectively.
The board's vote followed a recommendation from its Finance Committee. The new salaries represent increases from the current rates. Officials stated that the adjustments are intended to remain competitive with similar counties and reflect the responsibilities of the offices.
The ordinance stipulates that the salaries will be effective starting December 1, 2026, which is after the November 2026 election. The elected officials will begin receiving the new pay at the start of their next terms.
