Kanadevia Corporation, formerly Hitachi Zosen, announced that its subsidiary has signed a 33.5-year concession agreement for a waste-to-energy project in Morocco. The deal was reported in early August 2026, though specific financial terms were not disclosed.
The project involves the design, construction, and operation of a waste-to-energy facility that will convert municipal solid waste into electricity. The plant is expected to be located in the Rabat area, according to local reports.
This agreement aligns with Morocco's strategy to increase renewable energy and reduce landfill waste. The country has set a target to generate 52% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Kanadevia has prior experience in waste-to-energy projects globally, including in Japan and Southeast Asia. The Moroccan project marks its entry into North Africa's growing waste management market.
