Justin Berfield, who played Reese on the hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, has spoken about the renewed attention on his former co-star Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey. In a recent episode of the podcast Howie Mandel Does Stuff, Berfield said he's 'been seeing paparazzi shots' of Sullivan and feels 'bad' about the renewed interest.
Berfield explained that Sullivan left Hollywood years ago and has chosen to live a private life. 'He's not in the industry anymore. He's just a normal guy,' Berfield said, adding that the paparazzi attention is likely unwelcome.
Sullivan, now 34, has not acted since 2010. He has no public social media presence and has given no interviews about his departure from acting. Berfield's comments are the first from a cast member addressing the recent photos.
The Malcolm in the Middle cast has largely remained in touch, with Berfield noting that he and others still talk. However, he emphasized that Sullivan's decision to step away should be respected.
