Lady Justice Imani Daudi Aboud has returned to the High Court of Tanzania's Dodoma Registry following the completion of her tenure as President of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, according to a statement from the Tanzanian judiciary. Her return marks a significant transition in her judicial career.
Justice Aboud served as President of the African Court from 2021 to 2024, becoming the first Tanzanian to hold that position. During her tenure, she oversaw several landmark cases related to human rights across the continent. The African Court, based in Arusha, Tanzania, is the principal judicial organ of the African Union.
Prior to her appointment to the African Court in 2018, Justice Aboud served as a judge of the High Court of Tanzania. She has also held various positions within the Tanzanian judiciary, including serving as a resident magistrate and a judge of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania.
Her return to the High Court in Dodoma is seen as a homecoming, where she will continue to contribute to the development of jurisprudence in Tanzania. The judiciary has welcomed her back, noting her extensive experience in both domestic and international law.
