The game, held at the CCU Softball Stadium in Conway, South Carolina, was tied 3-3 after seven innings. In the top of the eighth, sophomore infielder Kira Ortega delivered a go-ahead RBI single to center field, scoring Bella Henzler from second base. Henzler had reached base on a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt.
JMU pitcher Alissa Humphrey earned the complete-game win, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out six batters. Coastal Carolina's Riley Zana took the loss in relief. The Chanticleers fell to 21-17 overall and 7-7 in conference play with the defeat.
