Students in Jharkhand have suspended their ongoing protest against the state's competitive examination process after the government accepted several of their key demands. The decision came after a meeting between student representatives and state officials, following days of demonstrations that had disrupted normal life in parts of the state.
The students have given Chief Minister Hemant Soren a two-month ultimatum to implement the agreed-upon changes. The demands included a review of the examination pattern, transparency in the recruitment process, and action against alleged irregularities in previous exams.
According to local reports, the government has agreed to form a committee to look into the students' grievances and ensure a fair and timely conduct of examinations. The students have said they will resume their protest if the demands are not met within the stipulated time frame.
The protest, which began earlier this month, had seen thousands of students taking to the streets in Ranchi and other districts, demanding a probe into alleged paper leaks and a re-examination of certain papers. The suspension of the protest brings temporary relief to the administration, which had deployed additional security forces in sensitive areas.
