Jamaica and Mauritius join a growing list of nations that view the autonomy initiative as a viable path to resolving the long-standing dispute. The Polisario Front, which seeks independence, has rejected the plan and continues to call for a referendum on self-determination.
The United Nations has facilitated multiple rounds of talks between Morocco and the Polisario Front, but a final settlement remains elusive. The support from Jamaica and Mauritius adds to Morocco's diplomatic momentum on the issue.
