Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a drone strike on a commercial vessel it identified as the MSC Orion in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC stated the ship is linked to Israel. Maritime security firms have confirmed an incident involving a container ship in the area.
The attack follows heightened regional tensions and previous exchanges between Iran and Israel. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and such incidents threaten maritime security and energy markets.
There were no immediate reports of casualties from the attack. The vessel, reportedly slightly damaged, is continuing its journey. The Israeli government has not issued an immediate public statement on the incident.
Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed there was no increase in radiation levels following a separate drone strike on the perimeter of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant earlier this week, which killed one security guard.
