Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Thursday (May 7, 2026) stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may have decided to shift the Indian Premier League (IPL) finals venue from Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium due to commercial viability considerations.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara said, "The BCCI might have decided to shift the IPL finals venue from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad considering commercial viability." He added that the state government had not received any official communication regarding the change.
The minister also clarified that the distribution of tickets to Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) has not been affected by the venue shift. The BCCI has not yet made an official announcement about the change, but reports suggest the decision was influenced by the larger seating capacity of the Narendra Modi Stadium, which can accommodate over 130,000 spectators compared to the Chinnaswamy Stadium's capacity of about 40,000.
