Mandela Pictures and Oceanus Media Global have launched the first stills from 'Bisikan Desa Gringsing: Whispers of Fatimah' at the Cannes Film Market, marking the international debut of what is billed as one of the first Indonesian horror features to use virtual production technology.
The film, directed by [director name not verified], combines traditional Indonesian folklore with cutting-edge LED wall virtual production techniques. The story follows Fatimah, a young woman who returns to her ancestral village of Gringsing and encounters supernatural forces tied to local legends.
According to the production team, the use of virtual production allowed for complex visual effects and atmospheric environments to be created in real-time on set, reducing post-production time and costs. The technology was provided by Oceanus Media Global, which has previously worked on international virtual production projects.
The Cannes Film Market, running alongside the Cannes Film Festival, serves as a key platform for international sales and distribution. The debut of 'Bisikan Desa Gringsing' aims to attract global distributors and festival programmers interested in Southeast Asian genre cinema.
