The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), is advancing plans to construct groundwater irrigation networks (JIAT) to enhance agricultural productivity, particularly in key food-producing regions. Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has emphasized this initiative as part of efforts to support national food security.
According to official statements, the JIAT program involves drilling deep wells and installing pumps to provide a reliable water source for farmland, especially in areas where surface water is insufficient or during dry seasons. The government has identified several priority regions for the initial phase of development.
The project aligns with broader national strategies to modernize agricultural infrastructure and mitigate the impacts of climate variability on crop yields. Funding and implementation timelines are being coordinated with relevant regional authorities.
