According to data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for the first half of 2026, India was the leading country of origin for removals from Canada, with a total of 1,234 individuals removed. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Bangladesh has re-entered the top 10 list of countries with the most removals, ranking 9th with 245 removals. The top 10 also includes Mexico, the United States, Nigeria, and China, among others.
The CBSA attributes the rise in removals to enhanced enforcement efforts and improved data sharing with international partners. The agency also noted that removals are carried out in accordance with Canadian immigration laws and international obligations.
Immigration experts suggest that the increase in removals to India may be linked to a higher number of asylum claims from Indian nationals in recent years, as well as bilateral agreements on migration and border security.
The full data for the second half of 2026 is expected to be released in early 2027.
