On June 28, 2026, the Indian Health Ministry announced the launch of revised guidelines under the Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) program. The updated framework aims to strengthen interventions and integrate digital tracking to combat anaemia, which affects a significant portion of India's population, particularly women and children.
The revised guidelines focus on enhanced screening, treatment protocols, and the use of a digital platform for real-time monitoring of anaemia cases. This includes tracking of iron and folic acid supplementation, deworming, and nutrition counseling across health facilities.
According to the ministry, the new measures are designed to accelerate progress toward the goal of reducing anaemia prevalence by 3 percentage points per year. The AMB program, launched in 2018, targets six beneficiary groups: children aged 6-59 months, children aged 5-9 years, adolescents (10-19 years), pregnant women, lactating mothers, and women of reproductive age.
The digital tracking system will enable health workers to identify high-risk individuals and ensure timely interventions. The ministry emphasized that community engagement and behavior change communication remain key components of the strategy.
