ISLAMABAD: Dr. Uzma Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Monday challenged before the Supreme Court of Pakistan the Islamabad High Court's (IHC) ruling that refused to transfer her brother to Shifa International Hospital and denied access to his personal physicians, family, and legal team.
The petition, filed on May 11, 2026, argues that the IHC decision violates Imran Khan's fundamental rights to health and legal representation. Dr. Khan seeks the Supreme Court's intervention to order the government to ensure adequate medical care and family access for the former premier, who has been in detention since August 2023.
Imran Khan, 73, has been held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi following multiple convictions. His health has been a recurring concern, with his medical team reporting issues including a persistent cough and back problems. The IHC had previously ruled that the jail authorities were providing adequate medical care, a decision now contested.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the petition later this week. Legal experts note that the case raises significant questions about the rights of high-profile detainees to choose their medical providers and receive family visits.
