According to the Dorchester County State's Attorney's Office, a Hurlock man has pleaded guilty to charges of malicious burning and assault stemming from an incident involving his mother. The plea was entered on August 12, 2026, in Dorchester County Circuit Court.
The defendant, identified as 34-year-old Brandon T. Jones, admitted to setting fire to his mother's residence and assaulting her during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred on June 15, 2026, at a home on the 100 block of South Main Street in Hurlock.
As part of the plea agreement, Jones faces a sentence of 20 years in prison, with all but 10 years suspended, followed by five years of supervised probation. He will also be required to complete anger management counseling and pay restitution for damages to the property.
The victim, who was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, has since recovered. The State's Attorney's Office emphasized that the plea ensures accountability for the defendant's actions while providing a measure of justice for the victim.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 15, 2026. Jones remains in custody at the Dorchester County Detention Center without bond pending sentencing.
