A human skull was discovered hanging from a tree in a wooded area in Enfield, east London, prompting a major response from emergency services and police. The grim find was made by an Enfield Council worker in Brooke Wood, off The Ridgeway, who alerted authorities after coming across the remains.
Following the initial discovery, officers conducted a thorough search of the surrounding woodland and were able to locate approximately 80% of the remaining skeletal remains in the vicinity. Police confirmed the bones are believed to have been in the location for around four years, suggesting the individual may have died as far back as 2021 or 2022.
The Metropolitan Police launched a formal investigation and a forensic examination of the remains is underway to establish the identity of the deceased and the cause of death. Authorities have stated they are not treating the death as suspicious at this stage, though enquiries remain ongoing.
The area was cordoned off while specialist officers and forensic teams worked the scene. Local residents and council workers in the Enfield area were understandably shaken by the discovery. Police have appealed for anyone with information that may assist in identifying the individual to come forward.
