MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives leadership has given its prosecutors full discretion in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to a statement from the House on June 18, 2026.
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed that the prosecutors, led by Deputy Speaker and Batangas Representative Jinky Luistro, are free to decide on strategy and evidence without interference from House leaders. 'We trust their judgment and expertise,' Velasco said.
The trial, which began on June 10, 2026, stems from allegations of corruption and betrayal of public trust against Duterte. The House voted 215-0 in May to impeach her, sending the case to the Senate for trial.
Luistro, who serves as head prosecutor, has not yet commented on the House's decision. The trial is expected to continue for several weeks.
