Hervé Renard has been reappointed as head coach of the Ivory Coast national football team, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced on Tuesday. The Frenchman returns to the role he held from 2015 to 2019, and his appointment comes 11 years after he led the Elephants to victory in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Renard, who most recently coached the Saudi Arabia national team, replaces Emerse Faé, who was dismissed after a disappointing run in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. The 57-year-old has signed a contract that runs until the 2027 AFCON, which the Ivory Coast will host.
During his previous tenure, Renard guided the Elephants to the 2015 AFCON title in Equatorial Guinea, defeating Ghana on penalties in the final. He also won the AFCON with Zambia in 2012, making him one of only two coaches to have won the tournament with two different countries.
Renard's first task will be to prepare the team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with the Elephants currently second in their group. His official unveiling is expected later this week.
