Montreal is under a rainfall warning as a significant weather system brings heavy precipitation to the region. Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts total rainfall amounts of 40 to 70 millimetres, with higher amounts possible in some areas, continuing through Thursday, April 2, 2026.

In response, the City of Montreal has activated its flood preparedness plan. Public security officials have issued warnings for low-lying areas near rivers and streams, including parts of the boroughs of Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève. Several roads, including sections of Gouin Boulevard West, have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Authorities are urging residents in at-risk zones to take necessary precautions, such as moving belongings to higher ground and avoiding non-essential travel. The city has made sandbags available at designated locations. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any incidents.

This spring rainfall follows a winter with significant snowpack, increasing the risk of flooding as the ground remains saturated. Meteorologists advise that the rain is expected to taper off to showers by Friday, April 3.
