Health departments nationwide, including many at the district and county level, participated in National Public Health Week from April 6-12, 2026. The annual observance, led by the American Public Health Association (APHA), aims to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues critical to improving the nation's health.
This year's theme, 'Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,' focused on building stronger, healthier communities. Local departments organized events such as health fairs, vaccination clinics, educational workshops on nutrition and mental health, and community clean-up activities.
Public health officials used the week to advocate for sustained investment in public health infrastructure and workforce. They emphasized the role of preventive care and community partnerships in addressing ongoing challenges like health equity, chronic disease prevention, and preparedness for future health emergencies.
