Several months after a US-mediated ceasefire entered into effect, Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip Izz ad-Din al-Haddad made a series of critical mistakes that enabled Israel to track and ultimately kill him, security sources told Walla on Saturday.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said al-Haddad violated his own strict security protocols by using a personal phone and meeting with a subordinate in an unsecured location. These actions allowed Israeli intelligence to pinpoint his location and carry out a targeted strike.
Al-Haddad had been a key figure in Hamas's military operations and had survived multiple previous assassination attempts. His death marks a significant blow to the group's leadership structure in Gaza.
Israeli officials have not officially commented on the operation. The ceasefire, brokered by the United States earlier this year, remains in effect despite this incident.
