Malaysian men's doubles badminton player Haikal Hasnrizal has confirmed he initiated the split with his partner, Choong Hon Jian, stating he needed a reset for his career. The pair formed their partnership in 2023.

During their time together, Haikal and Hon Jian achieved notable results. They were runners-up at the 2023 Indonesia Masters Super 100 and later won the 2023 Syed Modi International Super 300 and the 2023 Guwahati Masters Super 100 tournaments.

Haikal explained his decision in a press conference, citing a need for a fresh start and new challenges. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has acknowledged the split and is evaluating new pairings for both athletes.

The search for new partners is underway, with the next major tournaments, including the All England Open, serving as a target for the reformed teams to compete.
