MANILA, Philippines β The combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and tropical cyclones βLuisβ and βMaymayβ have caused over P4 billion in damage to agriculture and infrastructure, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of August 15, 2026.
The NDRRMC reported that at least 82 flood control projects were either partially damaged or affected, with the majority located in the Ilocos region. The damage to these projects is estimated at around P1.2 billion, while agricultural losses reached approximately P2.9 billion.
The cyclones and monsoon rains also affected thousands of families, with several areas in Luzon experiencing flooding and landslides. The NDRRMC continues to coordinate with local government units for response and recovery efforts.
As of the latest update, the weather disturbances have weakened, but the NDRRMC advises the public to remain vigilant for possible flash floods and landslides in hazard-prone areas.
